Teach Your Children: Songs for the Next Generation

Seattle Peace Chorus, directed by Frederick N. West, in collaboration with Sondra Segundo and the African American Cultural Ensemble with Kent Stevenson, performs songs that inspire us. As each wave of generations comes into its own, we look at what would we like to pass on, what would we like our children to learn. Songs have a special role to move us to be involved in building community and to work for a more peaceful world. Songs can bring hope, reflection, and a sense of well being as well as action.
Classical Traditions: East meets west in the key of C

Seattle Peace Chorus, directed by Frederick N. West, builds a song bridge spanning Eastern and Western classical traditions. For the first half of the concert, with guest artists South Indian violinist Amrutha Varshini Achalla, tabla player Anil Prasad, and composer and lead vocalist Richard Russell, the chorus performs original kirtan music. For the second half, Amrutha, Anil, and a string quartet led by guest artist Matt Weiss accompany our performance of movements from Beethoven’s Mass in C. The chorus also sings Maurice Duruflé’s “Ubi Caritas” and other compositions.
