The Seattle Peace Chorus has a long tradition of community and peace activism.
The chorus sponsors fundraisers for natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the 2006 tsunami; have opened for speakers Jim Hightower, Paul Lederach, and others; have participated in annual events such as the Hiroshima Day ceremony, Path of Lights (Luminaria), and in holiday sings. We also appear at fundraisers for groups such as the Church Council of Greater Seattle.
The chorus, represented by the Action Ensemble team, sings at peace rallies, marches, and demonstrations that call for social justice, protest war, and call for peaceful solutions to conflict.
The full chorus does not always participate in all community events. The groups that form to represent the chorus are composed of singers who offer their time and their voices. Participation in activist events, while encouraged, is strictly optional. To read more about the Action Ensemble, see the SPC Action Ensemble page. To read more about community appearances, see the Community Appearances sections of the Concerts and Community Appearances page.
Following in the footsteps of others with deep convictions, we strive to stand up even if we are a voice in the wilderness, stand up even though others may deride and insult us, stand up even though our cause seems futile, stand up for our beliefs in spite of insurmountable odds. If we do less, our voice will be lost, our principles compromised, and our spirit buried beneath a mound of apathy.
The Action Ensemble rehearses on the first Monday of the month from 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm at the normal rehearsal location.
