Seattle Peace Chorus was incorporated as a non-profit corporation on 14 November 1986 and granted the following powers:
- Organize and conduct musical programs, lectures and other public forums to educate people to the need for peace and the threat to mankind’s existence due to world tension and the possibility of war.
- Communicate through music the universal desire for peace and human unity.
- Inspire hope for change and encourage people to work for peace.
The mission of the Seattle Peace Chorus is to communicate through music the desire for a just and peaceful world; to consistently present this message through choral excellence and nonviolent activism; to celebrate life in all its diversity; to build and sustain harmonious relationships and cultural bridges locally and globally.
We affirm that diplomacy is the best way to resolve conflicts between nations, not military force, threats of military force, or unilateral actions of leaders. Cultural sharing, education, normal relations including free trade, non-violent democratic participation, social justice, mutual empathy, and mutual respect and openness among people regardless of language, skin-color, sexual preference, gender, or religion can prevent conflicts and foster peaceful and fulfilling lives for all people.
